Explorers
Our Explorers are a go-getting group of young people aged 14 to 18, every week they gather in a group called Unit to try new things, make new friends and put their phones away for a few hours.
Magellan Explorers strive to complete the higher awards such as the platinum and diamond chief scouts award and Duke of Edinburgh awards. Along the way they have lots of fun and build a skill set, ready to tackle the challenges that life might throw their way.
Our members have been involved with large scale events with hundreds of other Scouts, taking part in Jamborees, borough camps and water weekends. One of our members took part in a weeklong workshop with the national scout youth orchestra.
Many Explorers take on the role of Young Leader, which counts towards the volunteering section of the awards. The modular training gives a strong foundation in leadership skills and builds self-confidence. They will help the younger sections on a regular basis.
Magellan activities include pioneering, orienteering, campfire cooking. camping under canvas and in bivi’s. Air rifle and archery practice, first aid, navigation skills are done at our meeting place while climbing, abseiling kayaking and high ropes are carried out at nearby activity centres.
